SANDOWN (Lakeside)

Wednesday June 6

BEST BET:                   WINNING PARTNER R1 #5

BEST VALUE:            HELCRIMSON R3 #10

Race 1: 5-2-3-4

Very keen WINNING PARTNER – liked it at Flemington in race won by Vassilator – was well found in betting, ran ok with little luck vital stage (btn home by ZOUTORI) but the key here for me is blinkers going on. Think that’s best form line. FIGHTING HARADA rolled at Sale 2nd-up and not a lot to knock about the winning effort. OKAY BOSS won an easier race resuming on heavy but stable flying.

SUGGESTED: Took the early $4.6 about WINNING PARTNER, spurred by gear change.

Race 2: 6-10-5-8

Bit of entwined form here but using the race which the talented HANG MAN won at Bendigo as the preferred form line but turning around finishing positions there and going HIGH ENERGY – again with a gear change of blinkers. Thought it had least luck in that mentioned race. SASKO got lost there and over-raced but is capable of racing more forward as it did winning Balaklava previous. STARTIERRA beat those two home there, not ignoring that but just lacking recent wins and finds one better too often for mine. Outside that TWO BILLS is coming through weaker form lines but has more improvement perhaps. CALIFORNIAGRANDCRU is competitive but just now one of mine.

SUGGESTED: Round 1 for Weir today – HIGH ENERGY – $3.3 ok.

Race 3: 10-12-8-13

It’s Weir again with HELCRIMSON, lightly race, determined to despite massive drift Hamilton then sound at Cranbourne, handles all ground, drawn for advantageous run. DEPORTED will go better on better ground, struggled it seems on the heavy at Cranbourne. EL PHOENIX gets blinkers now after resuming Cranbourne on heavy, 2nd horse has won well since. RIVER GODDESS resumes here and won first up last campaign.

SUGGESTED: HELCRIMSON at $8 appeals.

Race 4: 2-1-7-8

Guess what – Weir! SCOLARIO bounced off chasing JAMAICAN RAIN Cranbourne with terrific Ballarat win from back. Think at the early $5 it’s better value than the $2.8 fav CHATUCHAK who has blinkers now 5 weeks between runs. MIALIGN was terrific resuming on wet ground at Geelong, BELLEGANO without blinkers and pleasing recent trial. JOCASTA is racing well without winning

SUGGESTED: Like SCOLARIO at $5 against Godolphin favourite.

Race 5:  10-6-1-4

Was very keen on TAHI resuming – market did reflect that – and ran well below all expectations. Is much better than that, rider thought choked down. Going to stick and get revenge. COMRADE NED has been a good horse to me and 3rd run in looks attractive at big odds ($13). Had little luck at Wagga, Williams gets aboard and is ready for mine. DEMOLITION has been patient looking for right race to resume after a couple of useful Sydney trials. MR SINATRA found winning form for Weir at Ballarat and is a respected opponent.

SUGGESTED: Stick TAHI around $5.

Race 6: 1-12-2-10

Back to Weir and GREY SHADOW back to mid-weeks now after Flemington where seemingly lost concentration after a bit of bumping on the circle when right in betting off strong Caulfield win. LAYEL was another to perform below market expectations at Flemington after strong maiden win. Think the cross over nose band explains a bit, much better than latest “failure’. MAGNESIUM ROSE gets out to 1200m and has Williams after suitable return. WIRED has trialled since latest placing.

SUGGESTED: GREY SHADOW at $3.8 on top.

Race 7: 7-10-3-13

Very competitive leg of a Flemington bound series but yep Weir again, this time CAPTAIN HARRY (way in form) but respecting the returning gelded stablemate STORM HARBOUR. CAPTAIN HARRY has come back in brilliant form and just ran into a superior heavy tracker at Ballarat. This looks ideal. SMOKE SIGNAL has come back a gelding and won well at Sale. MR WARBUCKS is progressive and like the Callow booking.

SUGGESTED: Backing CAPTAIN HARRY ($6.5), saving STORM HARBOUR (been $$12 into $9.5)

Race 8: 10-8-12-3

Weir free here and keen on the lightly raced BUCKHOUND who was strong late at Pakenham resuming building good progressive record. Better value than the favourite GROOVIN’ for mine, tempo against it I’d agree last time but $2.9 is under for me against the $4.4 top elect. SPEARHEAD will look a winner on pace in running, Williams goes on as it comes back from better than it looks Flemington effort (MR WONDERFUL) ran last there going head to head with it). SERENADE THE STARS resumes off some questionable to the ye trials but has ability. I BOOGI in the quaddie – can’t catch it.

SUGGESTED: BUCKHOUND at $4.4 appeals.
