Trainer John O’Shea and Tom Charlton did not initially intend for Satono Glow’s campaign to commence in the Cap D’Antibes Stakes. However, her dominant victory might have sealed her fate for further appearances on that track this racing season.
The three-year-old filly achieved her second consecutive win from as many starts at Flemington, narrowly defeating Over Excited in the $175,000 Listed event contested over 1100 metres.
Charlton admitted that he arrived at Flemington uncertain about the direction for the daughter of Satono Aladdin this campaign, but she may have provided the answer.
She is now a strong contender for a return to Melbourne on Derby Day to contest the $2 million Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes over 1200 metres.
“We came into today just thinking whether we may go up and trip or stay where we are and, I guess, we might have answered that,” he stated. “But she’s really classy and has a great group of owners who will support us with allowing us to buy them fillies every year and they’ve been well rewarded.”
The Cap D’Antibes Stakes proved to be a significant race for O’Shea and Charlton, with their $16 outsider Scintillation also securing a third-place finish.
