Schiller confident Briasa can challenge Ka Ying Rising in The Everest

Tyler Schiller is backing Briasa to hold his own against Hong Kong superstar Ka Ying Rising in Saturday’s The Everest at Randwick, despite drawing barrier 10.

Briasa was undone by a wide draw in The Galaxy earlier this year, flashing home for fourth, but Schiller says this time will be different.

“He’s into his preparation this time, he’s not first-up, so I have no fears about using him a bit early to be in his position,” Schiller said. “The closer he can be the better. Hopefully not absorbing all the pressure but somewhere around the mark where he can strike.”

Briasa is proven over the 1200m course, having claimed both the TJ Smith Stakes and Premiere Stakes.

Ka Ying Rising, unbeaten in his past 13 starts, is the $1.70 favourite, but Schiller remains optimistic.

“He is definitely beatable,” he said. “He is a one-of-a-kind horse and I’m glad to be the one on him.”
