SANDOWN Hillside June 13
Surprisingly we get a good 4 for a good mid-week meeting on the preferred Hillside at Ladbrokes Park. A couple of standout bets (look at best bets) but a challenging quaddie. Should have a good bank by then.
BEST BET: MOUNT KILCOY R2 #4 and HANG MAN R4 #10
BEST VALUE: NO MONEY NO HONEY R7 #13
Race 1: 7-1-6-8
Good race with for the raced v the 1st starters for punters to assess and the well backed Michelle Payne trained/ridden SWEET ROCKETTE ($185k Fastnet Rock) off two trial wins moving market. Was $6.55 into $4.4 early betting. Happy to follow my Sale form via Propelle/Cavalani (won Monday) and go TRILLI who chased them on debut when well backed. Can only improve you’d think. COSMIC RUBY comes from chasing the exciting Anjana. TROPEZINA has had a good trial.
SUGGESTED: Very competitive but will have something TRILLI around $7.5.
Race 2: 4-6-10-2
This should be easy work for MOUNT KILCOY after sound debut alongside DUALITY (gap 3rd) Hillside. Danger might be stablemate OCEAN WALZER, a German bred important on debut after useful Werribee trial showing talent. RUSSIAN ROMEO has a place chance. GOING IN STYLE ran into a well backed winner at Wang, but racing honestly enough to place again.
SUGGESTED: If you don’t back MOUNT KILCOY, where do you go. $1.80 is ok.
Race 3: 5-4-6-1
Tricky. Compounded by ZA ZA GABOR on OZ debut and well found betting of black type performances, latest at Listed 2000m level. Competitive everywhere in assessment. JESSAMIN back up from Saturday, that’s positive. ABINGER/PRETTY TO SEA/CASE DE LAGO all come through same race and competitive off it.
SUGGESTED: Following money ZA ZA GABOR but a wide race otherwise.
Race 4: 10-8-9-5
This is a potential star in a BM78. Black figures about HANG MAN ($2.10) are too alluring. He is a black type spring Cups horse – we had a hiccup at The Bool then he walked in at Bendigo and the form from well behind him is relevant. After that good luck or luck is needed for TEA FOR CHOUX (going for 3 straight), EUROMAN (worked into form) and MIDAS MAN (under-rated and good last start win).
SUGGESTED: Clear good bet at $2.10 HANG MAN. Any black odds a bonus.
Race 5: 4-11-8-13
Well found early is EPIC MOMENT ($4.4 into $3.2) but hard to match that to form but totally respected this “betting” stable with this ex Mick Price galloper. Raft of head gear changes may be positive lead. FLASH CASH comes with no bad runs and good form and reliable back-up. EMINENT SON resumes with blinkers off with good fresh form and ran well all starts last campaign. OUR GLADIATOR can improve this grade. I liked QUEEN ANNABEL when it won on home track after rectifying tardy barrier manners. Oliver now.
SIGGESTED: EPIC MOMENT is the market lead.
Race 6: 13-3-10-12
Costly defeat last time RAT WITH GOLDTOOTH who couldn’t reel in soft leader with 4kg less 1400m at Ballarat. Bit more weight relief this grade and with tongue tie – can avenge. AL GALAYEL makes debut gelded (naturally) and been backed off good trials. EXFLYTATIONS is progressing well. SUMMER GLEN proving a touch costly but no bad runs.
SUGGESTED: Good race, but RAT WITH GOLDTOOTH looks bet.
Race 7: 4-13-14-15
Tough quaddie leg unless you think my top pick MISS ADEQUEATE is the one. Makes own luck, rolls forward from gate to give great site. NO MONEY NO HONEY makes me wary. Loads of early betting action as well off back Launceston win and subsequent trial. ALASKAN SUN rarely wins but doesn’t run poorly, winnable race. PRIA EXCLIPSE makes own luck, stalled RAT WITH GOLDTOOTH last time, pattern crucial. Small horse down in the weights.
SUGGESTED: Stay alive in quaddie, leaning MISS ADEQUATE but backing NO MONEY NO HONEY.
Race 8: 8-11-16-6
Another tough task with imports on parade v moderately performed locals. Going SHAUQUIN who beat LA VOLT (subsequently beaten as favourite Mornington Monday). RED CHOUX’S was good resuming and this is right race with a few queries. STRYKE ROCK gets good run for Waller and is consistent. HARIPOUR has had admirers for his Australian debut for Weir. Blowout chance VIN FIZ.
SUGGESTED: Keen SHAQUINN around $5.5 but tough race.
