Trainer Ben Brisbourne has set his sights on a Group 1 race in Brisbane for Suparazi later this year.
Before that, Brisbourne aims to get the gelding back in winning form, starting with the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
Suparazi has not won since his Flemington victory in January 2024, but he has secured eight placings in his last 12 runs, earning over $650,000 in prize money.
Brisbourne acknowledges the gelding’s $1 million in career earnings but hopes to see him add to his tally of seven wins from 39 starts.
If Suparazi finds winning form, the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) in June could be on the cards.
Brisbourne was encouraged by Suparazi’s fifth-place finish in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 8 and is confident of a strong campaign.
“We thought he was brilliant that day,” Brisbourne said. “It will be a month between runs, but he looks good after a trial at Bendigo.”
Suparazi, who has traveled widely, will likely race less this autumn, with Brisbourne reserving him for key races.
