Victorian colt Tentyris has caused a surprise in the Todman Stakes, defeating Sydney’s top colts and boosting the form of the Blue Diamond heading into the $5 million Golden Slipper.
Just 35 minutes after Tempted won the Reisling Stakes, Tentyris, who placed second in the Blue Diamond, stormed home from the back to defeat Slipper favourite Wodeton in the colts and geldings division.
The victory came at a perfect time for trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman, who recently established a base at Randwick. Anthony Freedman emphasized the importance of having a Sydney presence to compete in top-tier races.
“If you want to win these big races you need a base up here,” Freedman said.
Tentyris, by Street Boss, had shown steady improvement after his February debut, and his recent performances, including a second-place finish in the Blue Diamond, have him as a $7 chance in the Golden Slipper.
Freedman is confident in Tentyris’ chances, saying, “He should run very well in the Slipper.”
Jockey Nash Rawiller also praised Tentyris, calling him “the real deal” after his strong win in the Todman Stakes.
Tentyris ($8.50) won by three-quarters of a length over Wodeton ($2 favourite), with Nepotism ($41) debuting well in third.
