Trainer Matt Laurie is heading to Sydney for the autumn with Vinrock following a dominant victory at Flemington.
After winning his maiden at Pakenham on February 20, the colt led throughout to claim the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).
Vinrock isn’t entered for the Group 1 Golden Slipper at Rosehill on March 22, but he is nominated for the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Randwick on April 5, followed by the Champagne Stakes in two weeks.
Sent out as the $3.40 favourite, Vinrock secured a two-length win over Brave Design ($7), with Onavuitton ($19) finishing third.
Laurie noted that Vinrock, an early trial performer, showed potential for longer distances and responded strongly when pressured in his race.
“He’s a very tough horse and really went to another level today,” Laurie said.
Jockey Mark Zahra praised Laurie’s ability to plot Vinrock’s successful path, reflecting on the colt’s well-planned preparation.
