Former Singapore trainer Tim Fitzsimmons is hopeful of securing his first win in Australia with Tesoro Mio in the Magic Millions SA 2YO Classic (1100m) on Saturday.
Fitzsimmons, who is based at Bendigo, follows in the footsteps of fellow trainer Dan Meagher, who won with his second Australian starter at Sandown this week.
Tesoro Mio, who placed fourth on debut at Moonee Valley last month, will be Fitzsimmons’ second runner from his 19-horse stable.
Fitzsimmons was pleased with Tesoro Mio’s debut despite some early issues and felt the $200,000 race in Murray Bridge was too good to miss.
“We thought about waiting for a maiden, but she galloped well on Tuesday, and this is a good chance,” Fitzsimmons said.
With Gin Spirit scratched, Fitzsimmons sees the race as more open, with Ole Dancer and Celtic Thunder being potential rivals.
Fitzsimmons has booked Ryan Curatolo, who had successful runs together in Singapore, to ride Tesoro Mio. If Curatolo can’t make it, Jason Holder will be the backup option.
