Tom Kitten eyes All-Star Mile challenge after strong Futurity run

Godolphin is hopeful Tom Kitten can turn the tables on Mr Brightside in the upcoming All-Star Mile (1600m) at Flemington.

Trainer James Cummings believes this could be the preparation of a lifetime for the four-year-old gelding, who impressed with a narrow second in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield last month.

Cummings is confident Tom Kitten has trained well since his first-up effort, but acknowledges he will need to improve to beat top competitors like Mr Brightside.

“He pulled up outstandingly from the Futurity, and his gallop this week was scintillating,” Cummings said.

“But he’ll need a step up to match the best in the All-Star Mile.”

Tom Kitten’s journey has been closely watched since his two-year-old victory in the Listed Fernhill Stakes and Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes as a three-year-old. His recent performances, including a strong showing in the Golden Eagle, have fueled optimism for this campaign.

Cummings is quietly confident Tom Kitten can rise to the challenge against Mr Brightside and Another Wil this weekend.
