The Australasian Oaks has produced some memorable contests and impressive winners in recent years.

Abbey Marie, Egg Tart, Sopressa and Princess Jenni have all recorded a maiden Group 1 win in the Australasian Oaks – who will join this illustrious list at Morphettville on Saturday?

Australasian Oaks – Winner

No. 3 Moonlight Maid – Bet Now: $13.00

She’s yet to show her best in two starts this time, but she’s stripped fitter and looks ready to do something third-up in the Australasian Oaks. Moonlight Maid has been a star for up and coming trainer Mitch Freedman during her short racing career so far and stamped herself as one to follow during last year’s Spring Carnival by winning the Group 2 Edward Manifold and running third in the Oaks, most notably. Getting out to 2000m on Saturday is going to be ideal for the Puissance De Lune filly and I certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see her winning at a lovely price ($13 at publish).

Australasian Oaks – 2nd

No. 9 Toffee Tongue – Bet Now: $7.00

Toffee Tongue is incredibly still a maiden, but she also doesn’t know how to run a bad race. The Chris Waller-trained filly ran sixth on debut on the Kenso course at Randwick in late February and has since gone from strength to strength, culminating in second-place finishes in both the Group 3 Adrian Knox and the Group 1 Australian Oaks. I’m just wary of her dropping back in trip for this, but there really isn’t any other reason why she can’t be in the finish as well.

Australasian Oaks – 3rd

No. 2 Nudge – Bet Now: $9.00

Nudge is another filly that has been excellent without winning this time in and she could prove big overs in Australasian Oaks betting at a double-figure price. She was an impressive winner over 1700m at Flemington when ending her spring preparation, in a race that saw her beat home the likes of Affair To Remember, and her recent performances in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes and the Oaks would be good enough to see her run at least a place in this.

Australasian Oaks – 4th

No. 14 Affair To Remember – Bet Now: $5.00

Affair To Remember has returned to the races in competitive form this time and I’m intrigued to see what she can do over the 2000m of the Australasian Oaks. The Toronado filly enjoyed a nice rise through the grades in spring, but it is fair to say that she has found another gear this year and she is yet to miss a place in three starts. Her win at Sandown two back was all class and she finished less than a length from the winner in the bizarrely named Vobis Sires’ Guineas at Caulfield last time out. Fitter fourth-up, she needs only even luck in running to be fighting out the finish.
