Robert Sangster Stakes Free Tips, Bets and Field Preview – 2020

The Robert Sangster Stakes is one of Australia’s most highly sought-after prizes for fillies and mares and a talent-rich, capacity field has been confirmed for Saturday’s Group 1 feature at Morphettville.

The single weekend without any Group 1 racing was almost too much to bear but thankfully, that feels like a distant memory as you run your eyes over the 2020 Robert Sangster Stakes field for the first time.

Robert Sangster Stakes – Winner

No. 2 I Am Excited – Bet Now: $9.00

She won a harder Group 1 race than this two starts back and I can’t find a reason why I Am Excited won’t be in the finish of the Robert Sangster Stakes, no why she has opened a double-figure pop in the market ($11 at publish). The Snitzel mare has been a strong and consistent performer for David Pfieffer throughout her entire racing career to date, recording several wins in black type company but clearly, she has gone to another level this time. She was as tough as ever with 59kgs in tow when fifth in the Sapphire Stakes last time out and will relish a relief in the weights here, while she is drawn a peach in barrier 5 with one of South Australia’s most experienced riders at the helm.

Robert Sangster Stakes – 2nd

No. 1 Sunlight – Bet Now: $3.00

She’s the class sprinter of the field and Sunlight will take good improvement into her second campaign start in the Robert Sangster Stakes. The Zoustar mare is a multiple Group 1 champion and has also won harder contests than this, including last year’s Newmarket Handicap. She ran second behind Gytrash when resuming here a couple of weeks ago and obviously, that form cannot be shrugged off. The only thing that I’m worried about is the fact that she’s drawn the carpark and might need to do too much work early, but Barend Vorster knows her well and I’m sure he’ll deliver a gem of a ride.

Robert Sangster Stakes – 3rd

No. 5 Teleplay – Bet Now: $19.00

Teleplay has fast become one of my favourite mares and she looks capable of a bold showing in the 2020 Robert Sangster Stakes. The Written Tycoon mare has made Melbourne Cup Day her own these last couple of years, winning a Listed race in 2018 and a Group 3 last year, and she appears to have returned to the track in typically slick form this time after running on well to fill the minors in the Vobis Gold Sprint at Caulfield a couple of weeks ago. She’s drawn to receive a lovely run from the inside and with even luck, she can fight out the finish.

Robert Sangster Stakes – 4th

No. 3 Savatiano – Bet Now: $10.00

Savatiano has mixed her form a little this time, but she is more than up to a race of this quality at her best and is rock-hard fit for the Sangster. The Godolphin mare looked to be in for a glittering prep when she won the Group 2 Millie Fox fresh before running second to The Bostonian in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes, but she’s since only managed midfield finishes in The Galaxy and the Sapphire Stakes. She’s another horse that will appreciate a relief in the weights and she can’t be left out of calculations.
