Newmarket Handicap – Winner

No. 14 September Run – Bet Now: $2.20

Her performance for second in the Black Caviar Lightning was probably the run of the carnival so far and September Run will take a power of beating in the Newmarket Handicap.

The Exceed And Excel filly was nothing short of brilliant during her spring preparation and was rewarded with her first Group 1 victory in the Coolmore Stud Stakes at this track and distance.

The way she let down to attack the line, come from nowhere and nearly pip Nature Strip first-up was genuinely something else, and she gets into his race well under the conditions with Craig Williams retaining the ride.

Newmarket Handicap – 2nd

No. 18 Swats That – Bet Now: $7.50

Expecting the Newmarket Handicap to be the three-year-old fillies show in 2021, and Swats That looks to be a clear second pick behind September Run.

Swats That enjoyed a similarly smart Spring Carnival campaign, highlighted by consecutive wins in Group 3 sprint before ending her campaign second in the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

She produced a lovely first-up effort to fill the minors in the Black Caviar Lightning when resuming and she will only take big improvement for that hit-out.

Newmarket Handicap – 3rd

No. 10 Brooklyn Hustle – Bet Now: $21.00

Brooklyn Hustle was one of the runs of the race in the Neds Oakleigh Plate when fresh two weeks ago and looks to be serious each-way value in Newmarket Handicap betting ($19 at publish).

The four-year-old daughter of Starspangledbanner has been a good horse since making her debut in 2018, and she has typically kept her better performances for earlier in his preparations.

She had to do a lot of work and also came from a long way back to savage the line a couple of weeks ago, and I’m eager to see what she does down the straight on Saturday.

Newmarket Handicap – 4th

No. 15 Sirius Suspect – Bet Now: $15.00

This is a big task for Sirius Suspect, but he has returned to the races in typically great form this time, and he absolutely relishes racing down the straight.

The Wanted gelding has had his runs spaced, but beat home the likes of Tavisan at Pakenham in December and was last seen winning the Group 3 Standish Handicap here in January.

He gets in well with just 54kgs on his back and the booking of Jamie Kah to ride is obviously a big deal as well.
