BEST BETS:

Race 3             No.1    SMILING MANOLITO

Race 7             No.2    GROUNDBREAK

Race 1

2 – 11 – 10 – 7

Not an easy race to kick off the afternoon but I do think LILITH will be amongst the major spoils especially having drawn barrier one. Her both career runs have been very good albeit over 1000m so she need to go an extra 100m this afternoon. On the flip side I think I’m So Sweet will appreciate dropping back a 100m and from a nice good should stalk the speed. Glamour Cruise has only started once with a good effort last October and returns here off the back of two solid barrier trials. Roosevelt has trialled nicely and gets the blinkers added for his debut run and the stable is flying. Knievel is likely to improve sharply from his debut run.

Race 2

3 – 5 – 2 – 6

Five runners and it is hard to argue with any selection as all have claims. The favourite is Limbo Soul who I know has well above average ability but second up after almost a year off worries me considering she looked big in condition first up. That said if the money comes for her she will be hard to hold out. I ended up tipping WORKDRINKS who I thought was good first up against the older horses in the Spark Of Life Handicap beaten just under three lengths. She will stalk the leaders and be ready to pounce. Tarabai has shown good ability at her two starts and well up to this grade while Boorooj only need to have matured a bit to be ready for this level.

Race 3

1 – 5 – 6 – 2

SMILING MANOLITO is building towards a win and a handy career with three very good runs this preparation even his latest when ridden upside down. From a soft draw today he can relax early and be able to come hard from the 600m and should be hard to hold out. The stablemate Semper Fidelis looks his biggest threat as she steps to the mile today a distance she should appreciate after looking a shade disappointing first up at Wyong. Actually at the price she was most disappointing but with that under her belt expect a sharp improvement here. Madame Markievicz did enough on debut when finding the line to suggest she has ability and the mile will be right up her alley.

Race 4

3 – 2 – 4 – 9

DANZIE was disappointing last start when he wobbled up the straight after a hot speed was set and he seemed to struggle to the line. Bjorn Baker has added blinkers to his gear today and they keep him switched on he will be hard to toss. Turnberry has been rock solid at both his runs this preparation and with a solid speed likely with Cervinia and Danzie with blinkers he will get his chance to run over the top.

Race 5

7 – 2 – 10 – 4

Tricky race for mine with several chances so maybe you will need a few in the first leg of the quadrella. I settled on ISAURIAN who has only started once for an impressive victory here back in October last year. His recent trial was very good and with a stack of speed here expect him to settle just off them and be there at the end. Brooke Magic won here two starts back before a good effort at Moonee Valley without luck and although a tough race he deserves his spot at the top of the market. I’m Imogen is first up off two good barrier trials and no weight while Rebel Miss is another coming in fresh off a good trial. Prince Mayted is a favourite of mine and looks to get a soft run.

Race 6

3 – 5 – 2 – 4

Tip Top was most unlucky not to get the cash last start at Randwick behind Onslaught when held up for most of the straight and she looks well placed here to make amends. Les Bridge has kept his runs spaced as he reacts well and from a soft draw he is the one to get through. I thought there was nothing between him and my top selection at the better price STAR OF MONSOON who since being gelded is starting to recoup some of his purchase price. The sting out of the track won’t bother him and although both wins have been at 1100m I think the 1400m of today’s race won’t hold any dangers. On paper there isn’t a designated leader so he should settle handy and be there at the business end.

Race 7

2 – 3 – 9 – 7

Keen that the flying Oriental Runner and GROUNDBREAK are the two clear top picks and one of them will be getting the cash. Groundbreak is first up off a nice barrier trial a fortnight ago at Rosehill. Today’s trip is short of his best but he is a strong individual that looked ready go from the trials and from barrier one he should be able to stalk his main rival. Oriental Runner returned after a 16 month injury layoff and has been outstanding winning three from four runs and if he leads without pressure today he may just keep going.

Race 8

11 – 10 – 3 – 1

SEXY EYES did a good job first up over the 1100m when coming from well back so she should relish the extra furlong here. Being out of Secret Savings mare should mean the wet track or if more rain comes it will only enhance her chances. Dancers is another who was very good first up and with a solid tempo expected she should be charging hard late. Missile Coda’s best career run was the day she burnt turf and kept running but with Irithea in the race that doesn’t look likely but she will settle on-pace and be there at the finish. If Irithea is able to lead and have any type of soft sectional she will give plenty of cheek.
