A wide draw may see Chris Waller shift plans for Firestorm, with the mare likely to run in the Dane Ripper Stakes (1300m) instead of the Stradbroke Handicap (1400m).
Drawn in barrier 16 for the Group 1 feature, Waller said the gate made her Stradbroke task difficult.
“If she had a good draw she would definitely be running,” Waller said.
“My gut tells me, leave the Stradbroke… that will have her peaking for the Tatt’s Tiara in two weeks.”
Should she switch, it opens the door for first emergency Coleman to secure a start in the Stradbroke.
Despite drawing widest in 23, Waller isn’t concerned after chatting with jockey Kerrin McEvoy.
“He’s probably a horse that would appreciate a bit of room,” Waller said.
Coleman, runner-up in the Golden Slipper, has found form again and is well-suited at 1400m.
