Chris Waller has confirmed Angel Capital will head to the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield rather than the Manikato Stakes.

The 1400-metre handicap, worth $1 million, will be run on Saturday alongside the Underwood Stakes (1800m).

“We’d love to go the Manikato, but he’ll get in well at the weights in the Sir Rupert Clarke and 1400 will be no problem,” Waller said.
“I’d hate to miss the Sir Rupert Clarke and he draw the outside barrier in the Manikato. If we’re good enough to win a Manikato, I’m sure he’ll win multiple Group 1 races.”

Angel Capital resumed with a dazzling victory in the Listed Chautauqua Stakes (1200m) earlier this month, his fifth win from eight starts and first under Waller since being transferred from Clinton McDonald.

Among the 22 Sir Rupert Clarke entries are Another Wil and Sepals, while the Underwood has drawn 26 nominations, including Buckaroo, Melbourne Cup contender Sir Delius and reigning Cup winner Knight’s Choice.
