Chris Waller has continued his strong record in the January highlight at Wyong, with Chica Mojito landing the $500,000 Lakes Mile on Saturday.

The trainer also won the inaugural running of the 1600-metre contest in 2025, and Chica Mojito delivered a similar result at odds of $17.

It was just the mare’s second career win from 24 starts, a return that undersells her overall consistency.

Her record includes 12 minor placings, highlighted by an unlucky third in the Group 3 Belle Of The Turf (1600m) at Gosford late last month.

“She got a bit of traffic in the home straight but she’s been crying out for a win for a long time,” stable representative Darren Beadman said.

“She got the conditions right today. A good fast speed and presented well today.

“It was a good confident ride by Andy (Adkins).”

Chica Mojito scored by two lengths over stablemate Mare Of Mt Buller, with Gallant Star finishing third.

Race favourite Know Thyself was never able to find clear running and finished out of the placings.
