WEDNESDAY 18 JULY

TRACK:            GOOD 4 (4.73)

BEST BETS:

Race 1             No.3                STAR OF THE SEAS

Race 4             No.1                ISLAND MISSILE

Race 1

3 – 6 – 2 – 4

STAR OF THE SEAS picks himself here off his two solid career runs as well as his latest trial that showed he is ready to rock ‘n’ roll. I hope he rolls forward to at least have a look and takes bad luck out of the equation. Smartypy is the expected leader and is sure to give a sight especially being back on firmer footing. Salvador was very good first up at Hawkesbury over 1000m so the extra 200m here will suit.

Race 2

6 – 5 – 3 – 8

MISTEED finally won her maiden last time out albeit six weeks ago on a heavy track but I am convinced she is a better filly on firmer ground and from a nice gate she should be able to stalk the leaders. Echo Gem jumped and ran last start and never looked like getting beaten and there is no reason she can’t do it again. Osorno is first up for four months off the back of two very good trials while On The Take is another who has trialled very nicely in preparation for a first up run.

Race 3

6 – 4 – 1 – 7

LADY EVELYN is racing well and will appreciate dropping back a furlong to the mile and from a  nice gate and only 53.5kg on her back he should settle just in behind the favourite and likely leader Wide Spread Panic and give it a race in the run home. Wide Spread Panic’s chances will be determined in the betting ring as she was friendless on race day last start and raced like it so keep an eye out and if there is money for her she will be hard to toss. Live To Dream and Mollyfied are capable of winning with nice runs.

Race 4

1 – 9 – 3 – 8

ISLAND MISSILE looks hard to beat here following two runs back this campaign in tougher grade and on unsuitable surfaces. He gets a good track and a good gate which should mean he can settle a little closer than his previous two starts. Mad Fox drops back to his own age and get the blinkers and from gate one must be given serious consideration. Mascot got a confidence boosting win last time out so he can improve again while Buffy is racing in great heart and must be given a winning chance. Divine Breeze will roll forward and likely sit outside Prophet’s Voice and is she can bring trial form to the races she will give a sight.

Race 5

10 – 2 – 3 – 8

If this race happens to become a solid run affair I think a few will be found out but if it’s a sit and dash the last three furlongs then it’s a different kettle of fish. I have settled on KENTUCKY DIVA a mare who has only raced twice in her career but looks a strong individual that will stay and with only 53kg on her back she will be hard to hold out. Follow Suit has been freshened up a little and will keep on coming while Segenhoe is getting fitter with three runs under his belt. Cormac hasn’t been on a good track since winning here back in May so watch for an improved run.

Race 6

4 – 1 – 2 – 3

TONSOR was dominant winning at Newcastle and is starting to build a handy record having won two of his three starts. From gate one he can easily lead and be hard to run down or if perhaps Tswalu decides the day to roll forward he can sit and sprint. Masterati was very good first up at Goulburn in winning lumping 62.5kg so the 61kg impost today shouldn’t pose to much trouble. He should camp right on the leaders and if he can pick up he will in the spoils.

Race 7

6 – 15 – 1 – 11

Curragh is the class runner and he will be hard to hold out if the breaks fall his way but that said he has a few things against him. Firstly be is better with the sting out of the track, he is coming back in distance in a race without a lot of speed on paper meaning from barrier one he will likely get back along the inside but he is a handy horse. I have settled on HAMMOND LANE who has been stiff not to have won his last couple at Canterbury and now that he gets back on better ground he is sure to play a major role. Dylan’s Romance looks to fly solo up front and if he repeats his latest effort he will take some catching. Valentino Rossa, Balmain Boy and Intueri round out the next wave of chances.
