Zou Sensation could be on a Group 1 path after extending his winning streak to three with a determined display in the $150,000 Victorian Jockeys’ Association Trophy (1410m) at Flemington.
The six-year-old, trained by Leon and Troy Corstens in partnership with Will Larkin, sat on pace and fought off all challengers to secure another win following two Caulfield victories.
“He’s definitely a horse that is starting to put his hand up as one that could probably go to a Rupert Clarke in time,” Larkin said.
Zou Sensation is being considered for the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield next month.
Despite overdoing it mid-race, $2.30 betting site favourite Zou Sensation held on to defeat Running By ($13) by a long head, with Fortunate Kiss ($11) close behind.
“He’s just an arrogant horse. He knows he’s good,” jockey Jamie Melham said.
Now a seven-time winner, Zou Sensation has earned over $500,000 in prizemoney.
