TUESDAY 23 MAY

RAIL: +4m                  TRACK: Soft 5

RACE 1          Maiden Plate       1200M

 NO.3               EL VENETIAN

Blinkers are off yet I still think the Gai Waterhouse trained El Venetian will hold the inside and lead and in doing so break through for his maiden victory. He is third up today so no excuses fitness wise and with the inform Rachel King aboard its D-Day for him to stand up. He has only run six times but it was evident from the beginning the stable had a rap on him as kicked his career off by running third in a Blue Diamond Preview.

The obvious danger is Dream I Can who has run second at his last two outings at Canterbury but is likely to be giving El Venetian a start and that’s the debate whether he can run him down.

Number one Cambridge Don trialled at Morphettville South Australia last October now turns up here on debut for Gwenda Markwell. Watch for any leads as Gwenda’s horses fly on their home track.

RACE 6          Class 2 1500M

NO.1               TORPENHOW

Torpenhow was allotted 63kgs for today’s assignment but will carry three less with apprentice Jean Van Overmeire taking the reins on the Darren Beadman prepared 4yo. Torpenhow was allotted 63kgs for today’s assignment but will carry three less with apprentice Jean Van Overmeire taking the reins on the Darren Beadman prepared 4yo. First up following an eight month break he went super finishing sixth in a far tougher race at Rosehill over 1200m. On previous form he’d pick this lot up and for me he showed enough first up to suggest he’s come back in good order. Barrier one as he steps from 1200m to today’s 1500m distance will be a huge plus giving Overmeire the chance to give him a nice economical run.
