A year after her breakthrough win in the inaugural Bluff Knoll, trainer Embroja-Lee Altieri is hoping Gemma’s Son can deliver another unforgettable moment.
That upset victory in Albany marked her first as a trainer, and the seven-year-old gelding remains the stable star.
Gifted to her by mentor David Harrison, who guided him to eight wins including a Perth Magic Millions double, Gemma’s Son has since battled setbacks but is set for a fresh tilt at the Listed Beaufine Stakes (1000m) on July 5.
“He’s very special to me,” Altieri told Racing WA.
“For him to be my first winner was a fairytale.”
After a smooth trial win under Lucy Fiore, Altieri is quietly confident heading into the winter sprint.
“He’s definitely well in himself… he still loves his work,” she said.
Foot issues had sidelined him, but the softer tracks are expected to suit.
Gemma’s Son, a $20,000 buy, has returned $1.3 million to connections.
