Trainer Tom Dabernig is eyeing a straight-track test for Cleo Cat in Saturday’s 1100m Quality Handicap at Flemington, part of the Santa Ana Lane Sprint Series.

The result could determine her path through the winter.

“If she handles the straight, it opens up a few doors,” Dabernig said.

Listed and Group options at Flemington include the Santa Ana Lane Sprint Series Final (1200m) on July 5 and the Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) on August 2.

But if she struggles with the straight, Dabernig will likely switch to Caulfield for the Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) on July 12 and the Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) on July 26.

Cleo Cat has won seven of nine starts, including last month’s Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

She was runner-up to Niance in the Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) on May 31.

A final decision on her Flemington run will come after a grass gallop at Warrnambool on Tuesday.
