Golden Slipper contenders sharpen up for Rosehill showdown

Despite two recent defeats, Wodeton remains the favourite for the Golden Slipper, but trainer Chris Waller has made key adjustments for Saturday’s race.

The colt will wear winkers for the first time and be ridden more conservatively than in his runner-up finish in the Todman Stakes. Waller felt Wodeton didn’t respond as expected when asked to quicken and believes a quieter ride will allow him to finish stronger.

“We have learned that he can be ridden more conservatively, put the handbrake on, and then he’ll finish off,” Waller said.

Bjorn Baker sticks with his successful formula for Within The Law, winner of three of her four starts, including the Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m). Despite an awkward draw in 13, her relaxed nature allows jockey Jason Collett to settle her well.

Peter Snowden is hopeful for a surprise from Quietly Arrogant, following a luckless third in the Skyline Stakes (1200m). After a three-week break, he’s been working sharply at home and has a great turn of foot.
