The Lindsay Park team and Anthony and Sam Freedman’s stable shared honours in the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m), with both stables now eyeing Victoria’s richest two-year-old race at Caulfield next week.
The Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) is under consideration for Shining Smile, trained by Ben, Will, and J D Hayes, along with Tentyris after a dead heat at Flemington on Saturday.
Daniel Stackhouse, riding Shining Smile, lodged a protest against Tentyris for alleged interference in the final 50 metres. However, Racing Victoria stewards dismissed the objection after deliberation.
Will Hayes, representing Lindsay Park, confirmed the stable would hold a discussion on Monday before deciding if Shining Smile would race in the Blue Diamond.
“If we don’t go to the Blue Diamond, we’ll aim for the Golden Slipper instead,” Hayes said.
The Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) will be held at Rosehill on March 22.
Sam Freedman noted Tentyris had improved significantly after finishing fifth behind stablemate Inkaruna at Sandown on debut. Freedman explained the colt’s routine was adjusted, including training over hurdles, to help him refocus.
“We’ll see how he pulls up before making decisions on the Blue Diamond,” Freedman said. “It’s a different dynamic, so we’ll work it out with the team.”
