Lindsay Park has decided not to run Shining Smile in this Saturday’s Blue Diamond Stakes, opting instead to focus on Tycoon Star and Miss Celine as its two representatives in the $2 million Group 1 at Caulfield.
Shining Smile, who impressed with a dead-heat win in the Talindert Stakes at Flemington, was considered, but trainers Ben, Will, and JD Hayes are sticking with horses whose preparations have been specifically geared toward the Blue Diamond.
Tycoon Star, a Written Tycoon colt, heads into the 1200m race second-up after finishing fourth in the Blue Diamond Prelude. Miss Celine, who won the Listed Debutant Stakes (1000m) in October, is third-up after two solid lead-up races.
Will Hayes believes Miss Celine’s form suggests she is on the rise. “I think she’ll be peaking on Blue Diamond Day,” Hayes said, noting that the 1200m trip will suit her better than her previous distances.
Tycoon Star is expected to improve from his fourth-place finish in the Blue Diamond Prelude, with Hayes confident that the colt is ready for a better performance second-up.
This week, Will Hayes aims to become the fifth member of his family to add their name to the prestigious Blue Diamond honour roll.
