Marble Nine could be primed for success in the feature sprint at the Warrnambool Carnival after a strong win in a benchmark race at Warrnambool.
Trained by Leon and Troy Corstens and Will Larkin, the four-year-old heads to the Listed Wangoom Handicap (1200m) on Wednesday.
The gelding has proven his ability in Stakes company, placing in the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield last July and in Listed company at Morphettville, where he was narrowly beaten by Press Down in the W H Wylie Handicap (1100m).
With consistent form throughout this campaign, Marble Nine kicked off with a third at Flemington on March 8, followed by a solid second at Moonee Valley behind The Instructor on March 22. He then notched a win at Bendigo on April 12.
Troy Corstens is confident the drop to 1200m at Warrnambool will set him up for his first Black Type victory, especially with the expected rain adding to his prospects.
Harry Coffey replaces Ben Allen for the ride on Wednesday, with Corstens pleased with the horse’s condition and preparation.
