Pleasure Queen, a Trapeze Artist filly, has impressed with a winning debut on Randwick’s Kensington track, sparking discussions about a possible run in the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) next month.
Co-trainer Sterling Alexiou was thrilled with the filly’s improvement, noting she had shown little at first but has significantly progressed in recent months.
“She was going nowhere three months ago, and she’s really starting to impress us,” Alexiou said.
Starting as a $3.30 equal favourite, Pleasure Queen finished strongly to win by a length over Scrumptious ($4), with Hellabella ($9) in third.
“We’ll consider the Percy Sykes Stakes or the Clarendon Stakes at Hawkesbury, but she’s still raw and improving,” Alexiou added.
Ciaron Maher-trained Stormland ($8) also shone in the Ranvet Handicap (1000m) for juvenile colts and geldings, and Maher is eyeing further opportunities for the talented colt.
“Stormland has always shown natural ability, but we’ve had to be patient,” Maher said. He was also pleased with stablemate Navy Pilot’s performance, finishing fifth after overcoming a wide draw.
