Shane Ciurleo’s preview & best Sunshine Coast

Sunshine Coast Turf Club Saturday, 30 June 2018

Rail Position: True Entire Course

Track Condition: Heavy 8

Weather: Fine

The track was rated a Heavy 8 at time of writing but looking to an upgrade to a SOFT 7 / 6 by race time.

Best Bets:

R2 N6 SHOGUN SON

R10 N2 WINTERBRIDE

Race 1

15 BLUEBROOK gave a great sight at Ipswich which followed terrific run here the start before. Only has to cope with wet track to give this a huge shake. 11 CONTRALTO Slightly longer trip on bigger track in her favour, chance if handles the track. 13 PEGAPUS might find this more suitable with recent runs under her belt.

Numbers: 15 – 11 – 13 – 12

Bet: WIN 15 BLUEBROOK

Race 2

Really keen on 6 SHOGUN SON in this, and he is my best win bet. This is the easiest race he has contested for some time, the blinkers go back on and he looks perfectly placed. He tuned up with a trial win during the week and looks the one. 2 VICTORY EIGHT looks the next best, he ran well first up behind Spending To Win, and his win last time was good.

Numbers: 6 – 2 – 4 – 8

Bet: WIN 6 SHOGUN SON

Race 3

Not overly keen on this race but sticking with 7 ZAMEX who got the job done for us last time out. He travelled strongly in the run with the blinkers on, and really let down well in the straight.  A repeat of that performance will see him in the finish here. Expecting an improved run from 1 SABKHAT, who was held up and a forgive last time.

Numbers: 7 – 1 – 2 – 5

Bet: Each Way 7 ZAMEX

Race 4

Really liked the effort of 5 THE FIRE TRAP last start, and think he improves here again to be winning. He finished behind 1 UNCONDITIONAL & 7 TIPPING last start, but those 2 enjoyed economical runs along the fence, and didn’t have to switch course. 5 THE FIRE TRAP was snagged out the back, followed the fence and switched over heels late. The bigger track suits and happy to be on each way.

Numbers: 5 – 1 – 11 – 7

Bet: Each Way 5 THE FIRE TRAP

Race 5

The final of the Winter Provincial sprint series has brought together a very even field.  4 EXCEEDINGLY looks a good chance on the back of the MANAYA form from last time. 10 RISING STOCK should get a good run in transit. 17 JETSONIC proven in the wet and runner-up only two starts this circuit. Will be hard to hold out.

Numbers:  4 – 10 – 17 – 12

Bet: WIN 7 QIJI PHOENIX

Race 6

Hard to tip against 4 TARZAN, who goes like a jet around here over 1000m. He is the track/distance record holder and expecting him to be on speed and hard to beat. 6 RINGOS A ROCKSTAR will settle back, but look for him to be charging late, along with 3 IRISH CONSTABULARY

Numbers: 4 – 6 – 3 – 1

Bet: Each Way 4 TARZAN

Race 7

The more I looked at this race, the more I think 3 SEAWAY is better than them and should be winning.  He was good in the QLD Guineas at Group 2 level, and this race certainly lacks the depth of that. The gate is tricky, but midfield with cover should be good enough to get to the outside and win. 4 MAGUFIGHTER comes through the same race, and again this is easier. He’s the logical danger.  2 THE BOSTONIAN and 1 MISHANI BULLITT also chances.

Numbers: 3 – 4  – 2 – 1

Bet: WIN 3 SEAWAY

Race 8

The two horses at the pointy end of the market, 1 TRADESMAN & 2 MEGABLAST look to have this between them. I’m leaning to 2 MEGABLAST, who looks suited on a wet track, and comes here on fresher legs than his main rival. 1 TRADESMAN the obvious horse to beat, he is having his 3rd run in 14 days, but trained by the master in DKW.  5 ALL IN VOGUE & 6 FIRST CRUSH are chances also, but mainly for the minor money.

Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 6

Bet: WIN 2 MEGABLAST

Race 9

The Glasshouse House Handicap at Listed level, and another very even field to do battle. A lot will depend on the final make up of the field with the wet track, but if its SOFT 7 I’m happy to be against 4 IM A RIPPA and looking elsewhere. A couple at odds who get through the wet 10 PRIVLAKA & 17 RIVER RACER both look over the odds and are good hopes on a rain affected track. I’ll be including both in multiples, along with 3 ULMANN who I think is suited at 1400m on a wet sunshine coast track. If the track is allowing runners to get back and charge home down the crown, he will get his chance.  18 JAMAICAN RAIN would have been my clear on top if not for the gate, will need a good ride with luck, but can be in the finish.  She is the fresh horse on the scene, and a few of her rivals here are past their best.

Tough race to bet into, I’m happy to be on JAMAICAN RAIN if we can get an each way price.

Numbers: 18 – 17 – 10 – 3

Bet: Each Way 18 JAMAICAN RAIN

Race 10

2 WINTER BRIDE simply looks better than her rivals and the clear horse to beat. She was excellent in winning 2 starts ago at Doomben, then chased home The Bostonian in the Listed Daybreak Lover.  She does rise to 58.5kg here, but she is the clear to p rater and I’m happy top be on her.  9 DIVINE MESSENGER can certainly challenge and looks the best of the rest.

Numbers: 2 – 9 – 3 – 11

Bet: WIN 2 WINTER BRIDE
