Waller confident Fangirl ready for Memsie test at Caulfield

Chris Waller made a special trip to Caulfield to watch Fangirl prepare for Saturday’s Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m).

The mare was scratched from the Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) at Randwick last weekend before travelling to Melbourne, where she has settled at Flemington.

Tuesday marked her first visit to Caulfield, and Waller was pleased with how she handled the track.
“She’s a sweet girl. Nothing fazes her and race day, you press the button and she explodes,” Waller said.
“If she gets around Caulfield, she will be exciting to watch.”

With Mark Zahra aboard, Fangirl worked comfortably alongside stablemate Moira. Waller said her fitness was where it needed to be and that she looked suited to the Melbourne circuit.

The trainer is yet to decide on other Memsie runners, with Moira likely to wait for the So You Think Stakes (1500m) ahead of the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m). Buckaroo is also being considered for either the Memsie or the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.
