Some of Australia’s leading three-year-old colts return this weekend, but star colt Nepotism will wait until the $300,000 Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill on September 13 to resume.
The Group 1 Champagne Stakes winner trialled at Canterbury last week, pleasing co-trainer Michael Hawkes.
“His trial was great, we can’t fault him and he’s looking well,” Hawkes said.
“The Run To The Rose looks ideal for him and he’s going really good.”
Nepotism is favourite for both the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) on September 27 and the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m), as he aims to replicate Ole Kirk’s Golden Rose/Guineas double in 2020.
Stablemate Briasa also trialled at Canterbury, winning sharply over 900m as he builds towards the $20 million The Everest. The T J Smith Stakes winner is expected to resume in The Shorts on September 20.
“He’s matured, he’s grown and he looks great,” Hawkes said.
Briasa is on the $8 third line of betting for The Everest behind Ka Ying Rising ($1.80) and Private Harry ($6).
