Waller fascinated by flying visit to Japan

“You never stop learning” has been said many times by many smart people that sit at the top of their profession and I heard it again this week when I visited Australia’s leading trainer Chris Waller to have a quick chat about his visit to Japan this week.

Waller discusses the state of the training tracks and how good they are 365 days a year, the science behind training with heart rate monitors and blood tests, the buying of good horses and mating with top class stallions and how Australia must follow suit when it comes to the percentage of horses that don’t get to the race track.

He was fascinated at the amount of time we spell horses compared to the Japanese and how they go about fixing small issues with their horses.

Chris also highlights the importance of having better training tracks as owning a horse is a huge investment for owners but also punters.

Waller best describes the way Japanese go about horse racing with these few words,

“They don’t stop with perfection they are wanting to strive for better”.
