Chris Waller is plotting a familiar spring path for Group 1 star Via Sistina, who makes her first public appearance of the campaign at Randwick trials on Tuesday.
The mare will step out in the opening 850m heat on the Kensington track, alongside Fangirl, Tom Kitten and Zardozi.
Waller is eyeing a first-up run in the Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) on August 23, before possibly heading to Melbourne for the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on September 13.
Via Sistina finished fifth in the Makybe Diva last year before sweeping the Turnbull Stakes, Cox Plate and Champion Stakes.
“She has come back stronger than she has been,” Waller said.
“She has adapted to Australia… from a health perspective, she’s great.”
The stable will also weigh up programming options to avoid clashes with fellow Yulong-owned mare Treasurethe Moment.
Waller said the King Charles III Stakes, formerly the George Main, could be another target, while Fangirl may also feature in the Makybe Diva second-up.
