The Australian agency Magic Millions can certainly take a bow with their outstanding success at the Victorian Spring Racing Carnival, forecasted by Managing Director Vincent Cox in saying “the Magic Millions graduates’ success is rolling on, something of which we are very proud.”

The champion mare Winx said it all for Magic Millions when she was rated 130 on the Longine’s World’s Best Racehorses for Turf, and joins Black Caviar as only the second Australian horse to receive the same 130 benchmark. Winx was previously the World’s Equal Leading Older Female in 2015 and Australian Horse of The Year in 2015-16.

Winx went into the Victorian Spring Carnival on the back of winning the Warwick Stakes and George Main Stakes both at Randwick and took out the Caulfield Stakes in Melbourne. She scored her ninth Group 1 success in the WS Cox Plate by eight lengths in defeating a high class field.

She now heads to the Sydney Autumn Carnival where and is already the odds-on favourite to win the $4m Queen Elizabeth Stakes at The Championships on Saturday 8 April 2017.

A $230,000 graduate of the 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Coolmore Stud draft, Winx was bred by Fairway Thoroughbred and is by the Dubai World winner Street Cry, from the stakes winner Vegas Showgirl. She has now won $9.34 million in stakes for Rosehill trainer Chris Waller.

Winx has a close relation in Lot 229 on Day 1 of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale on 11 January. She is the first foal from Winx’s unraced half-sister Miss Atom Bomb, by the noted broodmare sire Encosta de Lago.

Offered by Bhima Thoroughbreds as agent, she was foaled on 19 September 2015 and is by Sepoy, the 2011 Golden Slipper winner. Sepoy is making his mark as a young sire with Kilmah winning the Goodwood Prestige Stakes.

Magic Millions made Flemington’s Melbourne Cup Day their own with five winners on the 10-race programme being sold at Magic Millions sales. The ‘King of Ballarat’ trainer Darren Weir took out the Schweppes Flemington Fling with Speedeor, who went onto win the Magic Millions 3 & 4YO Classic at Ballarat.

The Randwick training partnership of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott commenced the honours for Magic Millions on Cup Day by taking out the first race, the Ottawa Stakes, with the unraced I Am Invincible two-year-old filly Invincible Star.

Invincible Star was a $200,000 purchase by Gai Waterhouse and Julian Blaxland from the Yarraman Park Stud draft at last January’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. Yarraman Park will be offering her full-sister as Lot 391 on Day 2, Thursday 12 January at the 2017 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott made it a training double, for in the very next race they scored with the four-year-old mare Sort After, who was formally a $200,000 purchase at the 2014 Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Coolmore Stud draft.

The courageous five-year-old Awesome Rock, by Fastnet Rock, made amends for his Australia Cup winning demotion by taking out the Emirates Stakes for co-trainers Leon and Troy Corstens. Awesome Rock’s half-sister by Snitzel is Lot 648 Newlands Farm draft, while Awesome Rock himself sold for $575,000 at the 2013 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Book 1 of this 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale consists of 816 lots being sold across four days from Wednesday 11 January to Saturday 14 January, 2017. Book 2 sells on Sunday 15 January and Book 3 on Tuesday 17 January 2017.

Zoustar, the Golden Rose and Coolmore Stud Stakes winner heads the 15 freshman sires in Book 1 with 46 yearlings highlighted by the Armanjena colt, who had bought $250,000 as a weanling in May.

Epaulette, the Doomben 10,000 and Golden Rose winner whose first yearlings sold very well in Europe, has 26 lots with the BTC TJ Smith Stakes winner Sizzling selling 23 lots and Shamus Award the WS Cox Plate winner having 16 yearlings.

The exciting duel American Gr 1 winner The Factor has 15 yearlings entered headed by a half-brother to the Coolmore Stud Stakes Japonisme, from Newgate Farm. The Factor has had an excellent start to his career in Northern Hemisphere this year by siring the important Chandelier Stakes winner Noted and Quoted.

The multi Gr1 winner All Too Hard leads the second season sires with 56 yearlings. I Am Invincable, who has an outstanding Melbourne Spring Carnival, has 47 lots including a full-sister to the Newmarket Handicap and Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Brazen Beau. The 2012 Champion 2YO and Golden Slipper winner Pierro has 42 entries.

Arrowfield Stud, in the Hunter Valley, is again the Gold Coast Yearling Sale larges consigned with 56 lots, including 52 by the highly popular Snitzel. At the January 2016 Yearling Sale 48 yearlings by Snitzel sold for almost $16 million including the Mirror Mirror colt for $1.6 million.

This year’s Golden Slipper and Magic Millions Classic winner Capitalist has a half-sister by Smart Missile as Lot 144 on Day 1 from Daandine Stud. This catalogue also offers direct relations to the likes of Golden Slipper winner and champion sire Sebring, Le Romain the Cantala Stakes winner, champion sprinter Buffering plus recent Group 1 winners Appearance, First Seal, Miracles of Life, Mourinho, Politeness, Single Gaze and Tinto the Queensland Oaks winner.
