Flemington hot preview & best- Snowy

FLEMINGTON Saturday May 19

Might be a rare non-good track for Flemington racing, though a soft 5 after another 1mm of Friday night rain and still a little about with should keep it in the range. Still suffering from Weiritis (no cure at the moment) with four on top selections (hoping got the right four) including best bet.

BEST BET: Race 9#1 ICONOCLASM

BEST VALUE: Race 4#10 BALCAZAR

Race 1: 4-3-1-2

VASSILATOR and BRONSKI BEAT are the 1400m winners in this race. OK so Vassilator (now up 4kg) was a $101 (won like a $2.4 chance) and Bronski Beat ($6.5 beating Mirette) was on a heavy, likely to get a little affected ground here but respecting both. Got them a touch behind WINNING PARTNER who was terrific late in a black type M’ville 1050m race resuming and straight to Melbourne and 1400m with some tinkering gear changes all a plus. Liked DALSWINTON at Caulfield, race got away from it but last 200m was excellent.

SUGGESTED: Something WINNING PARTNER in tough start. Think around the $4.6 is ok.

Race 2: 4-12-5-3

Weiry has a chance in the 1st (tipped it to run 2nd) but reckon this will be a winner for him – GREY SHADOW. Was $10 when Caulfield winner and got the run to do so but liked the style of win 2nd up after ISLAND DAZE had it covered fresh at 1200m – that horse had little luck behind it then at Caulfield. LAYEL only won its maiden last time at Wangaratta on a soft 5 but looks a city class horse, gets a good draw and Callow, a lot to like about her. TWITCHY FRANK (Weir) is Flemington winner (1400m) and enduring a long campaign with freshen-up at new Weir stables.

SUGGESTED: Keen on GREY SHADOW.

Race 3: 8-14-1-10

The draw might give you a concern about ANOTHER BULLSEYE but after claim carries less than when defiant winner stalling off Galaxy Raider here same trip last time and should be able to roll forward and land good spot. ÉCLAIR CALLING looks like he is ready for the trip, good Caulfield 1400m last time, Callow a plus but think overly found at $2.8. Sure can win, but rather the $4.6 the top pick. BOXACHOCOLATES has missed a couple of runs but not ignoring excellent Oz debut. I BOOGI is 2/3 at 1600m and gets good run here you’d think.

SUGGESTED: Sticking with ANOTHER BULLSEYE.

Race 4: 10-11-5-2

If I like Another Bullseye in a progressive BM78 I have to use its form race here – leaning BALCAZAR (5th btn 3.65 lens) running on well behind the on-pace dominating 1-2 then FOUR BY FOUR was almost 8 lens away but had excuses vital stage. JAMINZAH is on the quick back-up from solid $101 performance behind a potential star last week and back to 1800m the tick. Favourite is stablemate QUICK DEFENCE, been good here lately and respected but not totally convinced.

SUGGESTED: Tough but can back both 10 & 11 staking for a result.

Race 5: 1-2-6-8

Have to like BOOM TIME here. Was massive fresh from Japan Cup when hectic on speed with 60kg giving 5.5kg to last shot TARQUIN (meets it 2kg better) but races shapes better if L King gets it right. HIGH CHURCH needed run same race (5.3 lens) and can improve sharply here. SECOND BULLET reads without 2nd-up form but rarely has bounced off a fresh 1800m run as he does here. He battled well in the right form race. Can entertain thoughts for OBSERVATIONAL/MY NORDIC HERO/HURSLEY/LIZARD ISLAND but that might be over thinking the obvious here.

SUGGESTED: Stick with some class- BOOM TIME.

Race 6: 1-12-5-4

Be almost un-Australian to tip against RICH CHARM. But we know there is no such thing as sentiment when it comes to the punt but what’s wrong with the form. Is 2/3 Flemington 1200m, carries same weight as when beat KEEN ARRAY (not one of mine) last time (only 1kg worse off here). If you want to worry – it may be gate 2 up the straight, but ran well G1 in strong Newmarket. Have to default here. DIVINE QUALITY is only a BM76 rater (28 pts behind and only getting 5kg) but good resuming Caulfield and proven straight. Can’t mention in same breath yet. FIRST AMONG EQUALS is ready to lift (Weir!). MALIBU CHARM handles straight well but back out to 1200m (just 1/20) and this is harder.

SUGGESTED: Liking the $3 RICH CHARM.

Race 7: 3-4-9-11

A lot of winning hopes here so default Weiry with the very much in form CHEQUERED FLAG, ready to go jumping end of the season but slaying them on the flat and gets conditions to suit with sting out. Absolutely appeals as still on the rise. SHERLOCK HOLMES was strong end of the 2816m last time here and got edge off track to suit which it gets again. Still think its best of that lot. RUNAWAY on quick back-up from tough on pace effort SA Derby but hard to ignore Gai and this 3YO is tough. BIG HAMMER bounces out of a Bool BM78 (beating ROMANESQUE), lightly raced, building a profile. But numerous hopes. SWACADELIC is as proven at trip as can be without a win and edge off track a plus. Include in all.

SUGGESTED: Sticking Weir and CHEQUERED FLAG but whatever you like here would have a hope.

Race 8: 6-5-4-10

So Weir sends Land of Plenty to Adelaide(R5#9) but still provides top pick KEN’S DREAM here, back from strong 1600m effort Adelaide. Fit, solid and the one to beat here but respecting MOSS‘N’DALE who is unbeaten 2nd-up and ran well Wangoom at The Bool resuming (no fresh wins on card). Will appreciate the edge off track too. Serious player. Think winner in that two. LA BELLA DIOSA resumes for Lindsay Park, boasts a win over global Glamour and has touch class, comes here as highest rater (102). YESTERDAY’S SONGS has been long time out winner’s list, sensing has some fluker’s hope here.

SUGGESTED: KEN’S DREAM on top, if more rain, MOSS ‘N’DALE serious challenge.

Race 9: 1-2-4-13

It’s last race May 5 all over again here – I hope and suspect. ICONCLASM dominated LORD SUNDOWNER (and others) after beating GROUNDBREAK here April 25 (and others) those others including MASCULINO, ROSSMAN and TBILISI who each would need to lift to upset the play here.  Saying anything behind him either day needs to find a seemingly limited chink in armour. Soft? No – don’t over think this.

Useless info department: ICONOCLASM is the social belief in the importance of the destruction of icons and other images or monuments, most frequently for religious or political reasons.

SUGGESTED: ICONOCLASM wins again. One out in quaddie.
