Race 1

6 – 1 – 2 – 7

PRESSBOX was well supported on debut but found her stablemate too quick around Canterbury but you had to be impressed the way she attacked the line. She was scratched from Wednesday to be saved for this race and after drawing a perfect gate the decision looks the right one. She should stalk the leader and be ready to pounce in the straight. Stunts gets the blinkers on and comes back a 100m which looks ideal after struggling the final 100m last start at Hawkesbury. Canyonero resumes off the back of two trials the latest looked very smart and he should be ready to go fresh.

Race 2

2 – 1 – 5 – 6

Not a race that enthuses me but with even luck the top two Seaway and GAULOIS look the hardest to beat. Gaulois was solid first up at Hawkesbury when getting back a mile and with an extra 100m here and his good second up record he is sure to be hard to hold out. Seaway is building an impressive record and comes here off a smart win at Canterbury when charging at the line to win running away. There is no doubt he is a handy horse but he goes up 1.5kg and will likely get back from the wide gate and is coming back 150m which concerns me. Star Sensation can be forgiven for her first up run after blowing the start so expect her to settle closer and give a kick. Lisdoonvarna comes back in grade off a four week freshen up and is well placed here.

Race 3

5 – 9 – 2 – 4

EPIDEMIC did the job nicely first up when charging to the line to win in the final bound and I am not arguing he got all the favours and the race panned out perfect. There looks good speed here with Goldfinch, Sedition, Easy Eddie and Legadema which should allow Epidemic to find his feet and attack the line again. Her biggest threat looks to be the Waller trained Charlayne who is another that will appreciate a solid tempo. She comes here off a six week freshen up but she will be ready to rock with a nice trial 12 days ago. Curdled is first up off the back of one nice barrier trial and from an inside barrier should enjoy a soft run.

Race 4

3 – 2 – 7 – 1

COUP DE MAIN and BOCELLI look the clear two to beat in this edition of the TAB Highway races. Bocelli is a winner of two from three including a last start dominant win at Goulburn when he sat rearward before rounding up his rivals in a matter of a few strides. From gate one he may race a little closer and if he can produce that turn of speed he has he will be hard to beat. Coup De Main is two from two with the latest win coming during the big wagga carnival and if he is allowed to cruise at his own leisure in front he will take some running down.

Race 5

3 – 8 – 1 – 7

ROMAN SON dominates the betting and rightly so as he is racing in devastating form winning his past two with authority. This is a race he needs to win if trainer Richard Freedman is going to throw him on a float to Brisbane for the carnival. It looks the perfect stepping stone for him and although he isn’t racing any stars there are few hard nuts and he is short odds. Solo Mission won at his first start in Australia a fortnight ago off the back of raw ability as he was far from ready to fire at his best. With expected improvement he will likely play a major role here. Etymology will get a nice economical run from barrier two and if he can repeat his last start second to Goathland he must be seen as a player here. Naval Warfare and Multifacets are fit Chris Waller trained runners who are capable of running well.

Race 6

10 – 6 – 3 – 2

ALBUMIN comes here off a seven week freshen up and gets two big pluses which are barrier one which should enable him to get covered up and the blinkers which will hopefully allow him to show his true potential. His barrier trial here a fortnight ago was very good and if he gets a nice run tagging the speed he will take some holding out. The likely leader Oriental Runner will roll along and won’t be easy to get past going off his recent form and smart barrier trial. Manolo Blahniq is up from Melbourne coming off a three month break but looked ready to roll with a nice barrier trial at Casterton.

Race 7

3 – 7 – 12 – 13

SPECIAL MISSILE should be at his peak of his powers now with four runs back and with the step back up in trip to 1500m he will likely look to dominate right from the get go. When he created his reputation he would grind his opposition into the ground and just keep running so expect a tough race here. Up ‘N’ Rolling never looked like getting beat last start at Hawkesbury and from a good barrier here I expect James McDonald will be looking to stalk the leaders and be strong in the run home. Dagny has proven hard to catch for me but one thing I do know and that is if she can travel into a race she can produce a brilliant sectional. With a light weight and a good draw expect her to get back but hit the line hard.

Race 8

4 – 3 – 1 – 2

On paper there looks plenty of speed so I might be mad tipping the horse that has drawn outside gate I AM SERIOUS. On paper it looks as though the 4yo mare was below her best first up even allowing for the fact she would take plenty of improvement from the run but the way the race was run just didn’t suit her yet I thought he last 100m was very good.  She drops back in grade here and back to mare’s grade which I am sure she will appreciate. The extra furlong is also a plus but she will need a J Mac special from the awkward draw. Princess Posh was eased out of the Provincial Championships last start as rider thought there was something amiss so she has trialled since and looked free in her action and from barrier two she should get a perfect run on or near the speed. Medaille was fair first up and like I Am Serious drops back in grade and she has a very good second up record winning two of three attempts. The soft draw should make sure she gets a nice economical run with the big weight. Our Belisa is first up from barrier one and has been readied for this assignment with three solid trials.

Race 9

2 – 12 – 18 – 4

I saw NOIRE on Tuesday morning at Randwick as she trialled in readiness of this assignment and she looked in good order as far as looking healthy and bright within herself. Her trial was nice as Blake Shinn allowed her to take her time early before hitting the line strongly. She went to another level last preparation and from a good gate here she will take plenty of beating here. Her main danger to my eye looks to be Bon Amis who was simply out-sped last start by Craft Cop here over the same course. The scratching of the leader will help Bon Amis and the last 100m is its query. He will strip fitter and drops 3kg and if he has luck from the awkward gate in the early stages he will be in the finish.
