Freedman family makes their Sydney debut with promising juveniles

Anthony and Sam Freedman, not known for boasting, are cautiously entering the Sydney racing scene, aiming to make their mark with a talented group of juveniles at Randwick this Saturday.

Sam, who is overseeing the established Victorian stable while Anthony moves to Sydney, shared with Sky Sports Radio that they’re not aiming to expand the Sydney operation significantly. “We just want to get our feet on the ground,” he said, highlighting the focus on a smaller team and greater attention to detail.

The Freedmans’ debutant, Neilsen Park, a $650,000 purchase from the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, will race in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m). “He is a really nice horse, and we’ve always liked him,” Sam said, noting that while he’s a slow learner, the colt’s most recent trial in Sydney was his best.

Neilsen Park is currently a $34 chance with betting sites, behind $2.20 favourite Shaggy, who remains unbeaten.

The Freedmans also have two fillies in the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes. Inkaruna, who debuted with a narrow win at Sandown, and Price Tag, a maiden who’s shown promise in black-type races, are both well-prepared.

“We’re excited for both fillies,” Sam said, noting that Inkaruna’s form is strong, especially following Tentyris’ second-place finish in the Blue Diamond. The Sweet Embrace promises to be a key lead-up race for the $5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper on March 22.
