Rory Hutchings cops one-month ban over Randwick weigh-out incident

Jockey Rory Hutchings has been suspended for one month after admitting to a serious lapse in judgement at Randwick, just weeks after returning from injury.

Racing NSW stewards handed Hutchings two penalties—served concurrently—after he attempted to weigh out without his safety vest to make the 56.5kg required to ride Providence in the opening race.

When questioned, he allegedly told Clerk of Scales David Sylvester: “I’ll look after you.”

Presiding steward Tom Moxon noted the comment could be interpreted as an attempt to pressure an official to ignore the rules.

“It’s an extremely awkward position you have put an official in,” Moxon said.

Hutchings denied any improper intent, describing his actions as a “stupid mistake” brought on by pressure.

“I certainly regret my action… I won’t do it again,” he told stewards.

Tyler Schiller replaced him on Providence, who finished third behind Agarwood.

Hutchings received a three-week ban for presenting without a vest and a further four weeks for improper conduct, to be served concurrently from June 1 to June 29.
