Lindsay Park turns focus to Warrnambool after Hong Kong disappointment

Lindsay Park’s first venture into Hong Kong with Mr Brightside did not go as planned, with the gelding finishing last in the Champions Mile (1600m) at Sha Tin on Sunday. However, the stable has confirmed the horse pulled up well from the race.

“Mr B has pulled up well and is already home in his box getting stuck into his dinner,” the team posted. “After today he will spend a couple of weeks in quarantine in Australia before travelling home to Euroa.”

This performance marked Mr Brightside’s worst result in his 44-start career, with 43 of those starts under Lindsay Park’s care.

The Hayes brothers are now looking forward to the Warrnambool carnival, with seven runners accepted for Tuesday, including Port Guillaume, who will compete in the Brierly Steeplechase (3450m).

Port Guillaume, who has been racing over jumps since 2022, is coming off a third-place finish in a Pakenham steeplechase. Ben Hayes believes the gelding is gaining confidence with each race, especially after a few improved jumps.

“His last few were his best jumps, and it’s all a confidence thing with him,” Hayes said.
